Why Racism and White Supremacy Will Continue to Reign in 2011

A new year has just begun, but there is nothing new about white supremacy and the ways in which it does terrible damage to the lives of black Americans. White "journalists" on national television advocate executing black people who have committed a crime, any crime at all. Women unjustly imprisoned for 16 years are freed on the condition that one give up a kidney, an obvious violation of the law. Black farmers caught in a cycle of discriminatory practices never attain true justice, no matter how often the courts or Congress say they have.

The overlay of an Obama opinion supportive of Vick only inflamed already irate racists, who were indignant that a black man should have a successful life after being convicted of a crime. Some opined that Vick should be able to work, but not in such a lucrative and prominent position. The absurdity and gall that such foolishness should be openly expressed is the result of racism and nothing more

Well, this basically signals to me that Alternet is racist.

Alternet given it is an ultra liberal/progressive site, obviously is more or less pointing the finger towards the right saying it is their fault, it is them them them.

The massive problem is the finger pointing cannot go in one direction. Racism exists from all sides, it is virtually impossible to ever get rid of, and to blame ONLY one side only increases the problem, becuase that side pointing their finger refuses to acknowledge racism within their own side. So then what happens the side being pointed at will retaliate back, will get angry not because it is true, but because it is more or less not true.

It is getting extremely old. I mean I truly could point out racism on the other side, it is not hard to do, but denial is only exacerbating the situation.

The Scott sisters, double life sentence yes TOO MUCH, but at the same time they should have been punished.

Let me bring up another case that I have been following for a few years now, the West Memphis 3. 3 teen boys arrested, and convicted of murder of 3 little boys, one is on death row, the other two life in prison, not one shred of evidence NOTHING pins the murders on those 3 teen boys. NOTHING. Yet becuase they liked Metallica, and dressed in black and this is down in Arkansas, they were not the same as the rest o the people there so they got nailed for being different. They are STILL in prison as only recently Arkansas Supreme Court said ok we will given a new trial based on new evidence. Hopefully it still goes through.

By the way the West Memphis 3 boys are white.

Michael Vick, he is a piece of @!$%# anyway. Yes he did his time, not enough time in my opinion, but to me he will always be a piece of @!$%# because of what he did to those dogs.

People say Fred Phelps is a piece of @!$%# and for me given the amount of garbage he preaches I would love him to shut up for good. You cannot tell me that people are not calling for him to die.

People have called for pedophiles to die as well.

So for the crap of calling for Vick's execution for the thinking because he is black is beyond stupid. The calling of execution would be for what he did to dogs. NO ONE would even say a thing about Vick had he NOT tortured dogs. Think of it that way.

Racism has it's roots in stupidity, period.

No race, creed, ethnicity, gender, etc...has a monopoly on racism. Beating the 'hate whitey' 'race-baiting' drum is nothing more than blatant discriminatory behavior on your part.

Like I said, sometimes it's hard to tell on the vine as there's no tone of voice or facial cues to help translate intent.

I've learned to use the /sarc a lot more than I used to for just this same reason, lol. People would take my dry humor as being serious. It's especially necessary if I'm using a particularly satirical comment that sounds caustic. They are especially easy to misinterpret without some cue that it's meant as humor.

Personally, I disagree--I think every person in America has an equal chance to make it--but it is up to them, not anyone else.

As for Mr. Vick, I would've been happy seeing his entire salary from his first season with the Eagles donated to no-kill shelters across the nation. That would've been justice, in my book. Anyone who engages in animal cruelty ought to be subjected to the same treatment he gave the animals--see how Vick would've liked that... I guarantee you, he's lucky.

With regards to the Scott sisters--I find it appalling. If one wants to donate a kidney to the other, fine. But to do it as a condition of release? Outrageous!!

I'm glad this is just on the internet. It would be a waste of paper. The only one's that seem to keep racism going is the media. And I'm not buying it. It's a load of crap.

Although I have the tendency to agree with you I have to state that racism in the US happens everywhere, every minute of the day. That's a fact.

That the media jumps on the bandwagon that is called racism is another thing. We have to ask ourselves whether this problem is serious enough to deserve so much media-attention.

I know that racism exists. A sad, but true fact. But, I think the media sensationalizes it. I don't believe it is as bad as they say. The word racist is thrown around the vine like nothing. I am not a racist, but I have been called one many times, just because I don't agree with Obama's policies. He seems like he has a good personality, but his political view is aweful. (JMO) And I would think that, no matter what color he was. But yet, anyone who doesn't agree with his policies, is automatically called a racist. I think the race card is played too much. It desensitizes so much, that when it is actually happening. No one is paying attention. It's like the boy who cried wolf.

Agreed, they have the tendency to do that.

Good point. There's a very thin line of segregation between patriotism, nationalism and racism. The three words are used so often without knowing the resemblances and the differences.

In regards to Jaime And Gladys Scott, the robbery may have only been good for $11.00 but the loaded shotgun that was jammed into the car and the faces of the two unsuspecting men is a violent crime none the less. Excessive sentences? Perhaps.... But we all know if you play, you're gonna pay. Orchestrating a violent crime is the real issue at hand.

Injustices happen to people of all colors....not just blacks. =(

So do favors and perks. I just had a good friend hired for a position that many people applied for, a position that has been called the dream maker. She was under qualified compared to some of the candidates but applied anyhow. MUCH TO HER THRILL, SHE WAS NOTIFIED SHE HAD BEEN GIVEN THE POSITION! Then the guy who hired her basically informed her he and the board had given her the position because she was black and it would be good for PR. She was devastated.. she wanted the job because she met the requirements to apply for it and she thought she could do a great job for the company. Finding out she had been given the position because she was black and not the best person for the position really brought down her moral. Now she is wondering if she likes lending her image to this position because it will bring in a broader clientele like she was told. I feel really bad for her because she is amazing in this field, but now she is questioning her new position, her abilities and the real reason she is there. =(

The one thing you can count on is our media wading waste high in sheeet on a daily basis and trying to get others to jump in the cesspool with them.

I wonder if the broad media-attention about racism is justified. The media dedicates thousand of articles about Boehner crying, Palin signing a book and if you place that in context it seems fair to me to at least question if racism gets too much media-exposure.

Kim, what an awful thing to happen to your friend. I know at another company lesser qualified people were hired based on looks (ie. these folks were appropriately dressed at interview time, compared to far more "qualified" hires), or at minimum, enthusiasm for the position. For her to find out later that she was just a "diversity" hire, well, that's enough to take the sails out of someone's enthusiasm for a position, and the desire to do the best job one could do.

What a shame that they couldn't say to her: "you know, we know that your qualifications are a little less than we're looking for, but we like your ideas and enthusiasm." That would've been a cleaner way to say that she wasn't quite so qualified but that they like her enough to give her a chance, rather than pull the rug down from under her and throw her enthusiasm for the job right out the window.

To be honest, if it had been me, I might've called the guy back after the shock wore off and said: "Thanks, but no thanks."

Luz she found out a Christmas Party when the guy who hired her had a little toooo much to drink and stumbled up and asked her how she was liking being the Lead Reindeer? A diversity hire is not cool. You never hear about them happening here. She is doing a great job though. I think that this thing is going to eat on her forever. She is still so hurt. I advised her to use it as a springboard into bigger and better things. She and her husband are Military and there will be another life LOL....right around the corner the way they move them in and out of here.

Kim: tell her to not let such facts get her down. The best way to get even with an awful reason for being hired is to do the best job that you can, and when the time comes, leave for a position where your talents, ability, and enthusiasm/qualification for a position are far more appreciated.

As for the guy who hired her: advice to the wise: "It's never appropriate to get tanked at the company's Christmas Party because you never know where you--or someone else--might commit a social faux pass which would be the equivalent of job networking suicide."

      What a fool!!

Kimberly if it is not to much to ask which branch? It is curious because being in the military "sometimes" it gives you options (or that is what they tell you) depending on the position and the retaliation that will occur through the grapevine. Please tell her to keep her head up and continue to prove the idiots wrong.
